Hello

Dafney&Dudley

New member
My name is Carol and we’ve just taken ownership of 2 gorgeous ruby Cavaliers. We’ve had many Labradors over the years, most of them rescued. It’s a very long time since we had a puppy. We’ve had Dafney and Dudley 4 weeks and we adore them. Can’t wait till their vaccinations are complete and we can walk them 🐶🐾🐾🐶🐾🐾♥️

Just gorgeous, congratulations :luvluv:

I'm sure you know this anyway, but make sure to spend time with each puppy individually, so they bond to you as well as each other. Some individual walks, playtimes etc.

I'm presuming Dafney is a little girl? Do you have a plan in place for when she comes into season? Boys can be fertile before 5 months so ideally you would have someone able to care for him for about 3 weeks, it's incredibly hard to manage in the home.

Don't forget to build up walks slowly. Free exercise in the house and garden but on lead walks should be 5 minutes for each month of age 1-2 times daily. You can start lead training in the garden. We strongly recommend harnesses as Cavaliers have delicate necks.

Have fun with your gorgeous puppies and we look forward to seeing them growing up.

Thank you for all that advice, actually no I didn’t think about spending time with each one. Yes, Dafney is a little girl and I take on board everything you’ve said. We are working closely with our lovely Mobile Vet so she will also be advising us on how to handle Dafney’s season. To be honest though I don’t know how we can get Dudley to stay somewhere else for three weeks.
I have harnesses at the ready and I will take notice what you say about the length of their walks.
Thank you🐶🐶

That sounds good.
Are you crate training the puppies? That might be a solution, if you can get them used to being crated in different rooms. You can then rotate keeping one in a crate whilst the other has freedom duing Dafney's seasons. Don't forget thought that dogs have mated through the bars of the crate, hence suggesting different rooms too!

Girls often go off their food when they're coming into season, they can be quite clingy too. Inspect her vulva regularly to look for swelling, first season is usually at 6-9 months of age.
