MRI Breeders

Hi
Hope it's ok to post this here:
I'm looking for Breeders who MRI scan Cavaliers before breeding.
If there is anyone on here or knows any please could you let me know.
They seem very hard to find.
Thanks in advance.
Ed

Hi Ed and welcome. Where are you based? One approach is to contact the puppy contact for your national CKCS breed club, and let them know you are seeking a puppy from breeders who are doing MRIs. Also, some testing results are available on some online health sites too.

Hi
I'm based in uk ,In the Midlands.
Stoke -on- Trent.
I think I tried what you suggested regarding contacting the breed club.
I contacted the regional person for my area but haven't heard back.
I also used other contact info on Cavalier site.
Was saddened to get the response I had a few days ago...
"It’s getting harder and harder to get Cavaliers scanned as many of the centres we used to use have stopped offering scanning under the BVA Scheme."
It seems this is going to get more and more difficult.
I was hoping Breeders and Cavalier owners on here may be able to point me in the right direction.
I've done a lot of research into this and also read a lot of your posts on here and you clearly have done ALOT of research into this yourself.
The situation saddens me , I really wish the government would step in and make the MRI check a must, the same as it is in Holland.

I'm not fully up to date on what is happening with the BVA scheme -- though of course many health-focused breeders around the world arrange scans without the framework of a specific scheme, and many in the Uk would do so too. So that seems a bit of a cop-out to say that they cannot scan because a centre isn't part of a scheme. Ireland for example has no such scheme, but good breeders MRI.

If you find a breeder who says s/he MRIs it's still essential to ask for the certificates from the scanning centre. Any neurologist or radiologist can assess a scan for CM/SM -- it doesn't require a specific scheme and indeed, any neurologist can look at the scheme brief and offer an assessment that would translate to the scheme grades even if not official. The assessment scale is pretty consistent worldwide regardless of whether it's tied into a scheme. Any vet MRI centre can perform an MRI to grade for CM/SM.

I will message you a club-connected contact who might be able to offer some suggestions by email.
