Looking For Support

My sweet 1 1/2 year old Avery has just been diagnosed with KCS, and we are being sent to a specialist. Has anyone else experienced this? I am curious as to what type of treatments there are for this in cavaliers. Thanks so much!

Hi and welcome!

Sorry you received this diagnosis. I personally have no experience with this, but some of our other members may be able to help. In the meantime, go to the website below for more information. Please let us know what the specialist says about Avery. We'd love to see pictures too! Good luck.

Sorry to hear about Avery's dry eye. Sadly this is a common problem with Cavaliers, but requires careful management, otherwise severe damage to the eyes can result. They tend to be very prone to infections and ulcers. It's usually managed with artificial tears and something like Lacrilube for night time use, which is greasier so lasts longer, whilst also providing necessary protein to the eye. Often Optimmune is also prescribed to increase tear production - this is quite expensive, so if you are in the UK, might be worth asking for a prescription and buying online. It is really good that you are seeing a specialist, ideally an ophthalmologist.
