I had the best time with Sparky last night, we went over to Tymon Park & there was a lot of people about so initially I decided I wasn't going to even attampt any recall training as he's was too pre-occupied with people but then I found a football pitch away from everyone where I could see if anyone was to creep up on us. I had the little fella (& Cass) off tghe lead for about 15 mins & every single time I called him Sparks came running back, I was so pleased that he finaly seems to have 'got it' - although I still woudn't trust him around people or dogs or any other distractions!
Walking with him really is great as Cass (Jack Russell) dosn't really like other dogs when she's out - especialy when she's on the lead (not sure why as she was really well socialised, went to puppy classes, walked with 10 other dogs on an almost daily basis untill I moved to Ireland & left her living at my parents - where she'd allways lived - & suddenly she decided she didn't like other dogs too much, my mum said there was no incidents with her so havent a clue) so anyway, Sparks gets on with all dogs we've met so far & everyone loves him. - Sounds from this like I love him more than Cass but I don't really, at home she's a little gem, for a Jack Russell she's very affectionate & very well behaved - used to do obediance with her & no one could belive how good at it she was - she has even beaten Collies!!!
Anyway, we got home with me feeling very chuffed with our progress & I decided to give Cass a bath as I realised I hadn't bathed her since we got Sparks (8 weeks ago) so I had to take the little fella up to the bathroom too (as he will scream if he's left totaly on his own!) & he was very interested in the shower, he's never had a shower as he's allways just been plonked in the kitchen sink - but hasn'nt been washed for about 5 weeks now, so after Cass was all done I thought I'd try him as he was so interested, well what a good boy he was, he stood (not in fear!) while I showered & shampood him & then loved the towel dry. After a few mins with the hair dryer he decided he was dry (all but his ears were dry) so he had a funny five mins running from the house to the garden & back again & then thought it would be good to dry his now damp ears on my lap! & then he went to sleep on my shoulder.
Seriously, does life get any better?
