I have a 6 month old cavalier. He is a joy but a lot of work. I guess due to haven't had a puppy in a while we forget some things. He has a lot of energy and needs to be kept busy or get bored and in trouble. He loves everyone and isn't shy which is nice. When do they become teenagers at what age?

HI and welcome! Puppies ARE a lot of work -- and I hate to say it but they can get even more mischievous in the teenage period! That tends to start around 6-8 months (ish) and goes on for a while, too. Generally they good news is housetraining is pretty solid by that point but then there are new things that arise like intense chewing :). Every single time I've had a puppy I've already forgotten how much work puppies are! And I've had quite a few. I've learned that good management is your friend -- a handy puppy pen, a comfy crate, baby gates on doorways, good age appropriate chew toys, especially while teething (which gets very intense from around 6 months on as young dogs need to exercise and develop their jaw muscles)... keeping things away that I don't want chewed (clothes, dishtowels, socks, small items that can be easily reached, any poisonous houseplants, electric cables...) and so on. Also, there are good positive training techniques to be used too so that the adult your pup will become isn't overly chastened or shut down for doing what are normal pup and dog things. The puppy phase passes so quickly too!

I always recommend the free download of After You Get Your Puppy from Ian Dunbar which has excellent guidance for managing a puppy. The ebook pdf is free at the link here: https://www.dogstardaily.com/storefront/after-you-get-your-puppy
