I posted this as a reply earlier but wanted to share with everyone.
Yesterday I went out on my way to a 'howliday' party with Ginger. She was in her bag and practically falling asleep in the elevator on our way downstairs. I was at the corner waiting to hail a cab, of course Ginger on one arm in her bag, my bag with all my goodies for the party on the other arm.
I also saw the feather flying around on the street from the corner of my eye, but controlled my impulses to jump after it. Unfortunatly, Ginger did not. She literally jumped out of the bag and onto the street into oncoming traffic. By some Miracle there was a lull in traffic and only one car driving down the street....slowly thank gd thanks to the 2 girls passing who started screaming for me. I ran out after her and chased her till I got hold of the leash and shakily walked back to the sidewalk.
Ginger was totally and completly unaffected. She didnt even realize what had just happend. I on the other hand, could barely move except for the shaking that my body was doing. Ive never felt that way in my life and I hope to NEVER again.
Be careful with the puppies in the bags, this was a bag that her head could stick out of the top of it.
Every time I close my eyes I see that cab coming and its really awful. My fingers are still red and sore from my hand scraping against the tar while grabbing at the leash and I just thank gd for the miracle that we were both unharmed.
I know from other posts that this thing happens all to often and I dont know what I would do if ginger was harmed. As is i feel like an awful parent and a terrible dog owner. At the party I was thinking about the other pups that came in a bag with their owners, and when they popped out of the bag they didnt have their leashes on....what would i have done if I didnt have a leash 4 ft out to reach out for her. She would've just kept going for the next leaf or feather I assume.
Thanks for reading this. I hope no one ever feels the way that I did, although I have a bad feeling more people out there do then don't.
